Reno Radon Testing
Certified Radon Testing in Reno & Sparks, NV
Radon is invisible, odorless, and impossible to detect without an actual test — which is exactly why the EPA recommends every home be tested regardless of age, foundation type, or neighborhood. In Washoe County, where the average test result runs close to the 4.0 pCi/L action level and individual homes have measured well above 10 pCi/L, a real number from your own address tells you far more than a general area estimate ever could.
Types of Radon Tests We Offer
Short-term testing uses a charcoal canister or electronic monitor placed in the lowest livable level of the home for 2 to 7 days, giving you a fast read on where your radon levels currently stand. This is the most common option for homeowners who just want an answer quickly.
Long-term testing runs for 90 days or more and accounts for seasonal fluctuation, since radon levels can shift with weather, ventilation habits, and how tightly a house is sealed up for winter.
Real estate transaction testing follows EPA protocol for buyer/seller situations, with documentation formatted for lenders, agents, and closing timelines. Tell us your deadline up front — we schedule these radon inspections around real estate timelines, not the other way around.
What Happens During a Radon Test
A radon technician places a calibrated testing device in a closed-up, stable environment — typically the lowest level of the home with windows and doors kept shut during the test period, per EPA protocol. Once the test period ends, we retrieve the device and provide a written radon measurement report with your result compared directly against the 4.0 pCi/L action level.
Understanding Your Results
A result below 4.0 pCi/L means your home is currently within the range the EPA considers acceptable, though there’s technically no fully “safe” level of radon exposure. A result at or above 4.0 pCi/L means mitigation is recommended, and in most cases a properly sized radon mitigation system will bring that number down by 80-99%. If your test comes back elevated, our radon mitigation installation page walks through exactly what that process looks like.
We test throughout Reno, Sparks, Verdi, Spanish Springs, Cold Springs, and the rest of the Truckee Meadows, performed to current NRPP/AARST industry protocols.
Scheduling Around Real Estate Timelines
Home sales are the single biggest reason people order a radon test in the Reno area, and closing dates don’t move just because a testing window needs a few days to complete. If a result comes back elevated close to closing, we can often schedule a mitigation install fast enough to keep the transaction on track.
